After just one thorough walk-around, we were really impressed with the quality feel of this new 2014 Kawasaki Teryx. The totally new 2014 Kawasaki Teryx offers a powerful mix of improvements that might not turn it into the ultimate sport off-road vehicle, but maybe into the sportiest feeling rec-utility Side x Side around. Even with its confidence inspiring wide track and big tires, the Teryx stays compact enough to fit in the bed of most full-size pickup trucks. Only a few sport models can offer the same sort of stability and performance in such practical compact form.
Its new digital fuel-injected 90-degree 783cc V-Twin engine packs 26% more power and 12% more torque than its predecessor. This power increase, an updated interior to offer more room with new superbly comfortable high-back bucket seats, a larger chassis, upgraded suspension and a new CVT clutch, make this new Teryx an appealing choice to a wide range of users in need of a fun, tough and practical vehicle.
Re-assuring stability, a high level of comfort and great finish were among the positive attributes we had underlined when testing the Teryx4 and this new two-seat Teryx is very much derived from that more advanced Kawasaki Side x Side. The stable double-X wide-body chassis, a reinforced design using large-diameter, thin-walled, high-tensile tubular steel, team’s up with an upgraded suspension with Fox Podium dial-in adjustable piggyback shocks, which we are guessing give this ride it even greater handling characteristics. It features the same stretched wheelbase as the Teryx4, which provides a much smoother ride in the rough and adds room for storage behind the seats.
We had also found the Teryx4 to be real easy on fuel and this two-seat brother to that model, with its large 30L fuel tank, will undoubtedly provide users with the same useful range for trail explorers to get further away and back again. The shock dampening on the seat belts feels great and we wish all Side x Side vehicles had that type of important detail taken in consideration. Same goes with the doors which aren’t too bulky to take away any of that great outdoors feel but protect the occupants much better than most other solutions. The way they latch, real tight precise and smooth, displays a high level of attention to detail that keeps popping up as you explore all other important details, like the nice thump of a perfect seal we heard when letting the covers drop on those very practical storage compartments behind the seats.
Backed with all of Kawasaki’s legendary durability and reliability, the all-new 2014 Kawasaki Teryx also boasts a new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that includes a centrifugal clutch positioned between the crankshaft and CVT drive pulley for longer belt life. The Teryx’s certified Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS) cab frame also bolsters the chassis’ strength and extends out to the edges of the bodywork to maximise interior space. We find the shape of this cage to fit the recently changed facia much better.
We also love to see all that extra power and better CVT package being backed up by not only a great suspension but also with high-grade Maxxis Bighorn 26” tires on 12” rims and an 11.1” ground clearance which simply means that this new Teryx will get you to point B with newfound efficiency and ease.
The ATV Trail Rider team is excited about this new arrival, which impresses us even before a first thorough test. The quality feel is present with every detail: doors that latch smoothly, seats and belts that feel amazing, a gas pedal with just the right tension in its spring to support your foot, good-looking plastics, premium quality braided-stainless-steel brake lines, a worry-free sealed rear brake system and much more. We can’t wait to try this great looking new Teryx in the trails!
Also new is Kawasaki’s strong 3 Year Limited Warranty, which backs-up the premium engineering with the longest warranty coverage in the class.
